About Us

We've been hanging around
since the beginning of the century.

Has it been that long?

In 2001, I began building websites. These were totally custom-made, hand-coded, designed to be fast and very search engine friendly. My team and I worked with businesses of all types, concentrating in aerospace (love them airplanes!) and high tech. We still have some of those original clients from almost 20 years ago.

But I'm an artist with an extensive background in everything from music to fine art to writing to filmmaking, and... artists are my tribe? The people I best understand? The people I most want to help? All that.

I get that most artists, especially those starting out, have no money. I also get that most creatives want to do their creative thing and not waste their time on coding, design, etc. As a creative artist, you need a website, but actually making it is a pain in the ass. There's the platform, there's the tech, there's the assets, there's the IT stuff, and there's the design...

What makes website building resource costly—time and money— is the decision-making about design. Every website that has ever been delayed and gone over budget has done so because of quibbling over design issues. And most of it is pointless, ego-posturing.

We provide the work we provide at the price we offer because we move fast on the design issues. Really, what makes a site look great is cool pictures, especially in the arts. Cool pictures, smart use of fonts and color, clarity for visitors so they click on what you need them to click on. Yes, we try to catch personality and do something different, but truly, people are looking at it on a phone and the whole thing is tiny, and most of the time, they want to see your stuff and send you an email. How much design does that take?

You might love design and you might really want to get into the nitty gritty of that. That is your prerogative, but that isn't our business model and you're not a fit for us.

We also discovered that most of our clients don't want to deal with ANYTHING other than doing their creative work. They don't want to load new photos up, they don't want to screw around with updating their calendars, etc. They're working multiple jobs to get by, and when they have creative energy, they want it to go towards their personal work. We totally get that. So, we are a concierge service. Send us your stuff and we'll update your site within a day. FOr the first year there is no charge for that. After a year, you can opt to continue with us, supporting you for a reasonable fee. And if you want to do it all yourself, you can do that, too. Some of our long term clients do a bit of both: they update stuff themselves (ad we make this easy for them by customizing the backend interface) and have us do some things too. We're fine with that.

It's all about you getting somewhere, and Azul Burger helping you to get there.

Warm regards,
Luke

What's in a name?

AzulBurger... Honestly, we're named after a cheese burger. It was made with bleu cheese and it was delicious. It was called an "Azul Burger," and a friend and I laughed that it sounded like the name of a funky web design and marketing firm.

Years later, my ideas for names kept getting rejected by New York State (what a picky bunch) for various reasons. Azul Burger popped up. And here we are: a funky web design and marketing firm named after a cheese burger. I guess if the shoe fits, you eat it.

By the way, that's film director Fritz Lang in the footer below. He directed Metropolis, which has been an artistic touchstone for me since forever. Hence, all the pics from the movie all over this site.
